Has it ever happened to you when visiting a country other than yours and seeing that in some restaurant they serve food from your country, but in reality it does not look like the original food?

In my case outside of Spain Everybody call Paella to any mixture of yellow colored rice.

I agree, sometimes when we travel abroad we can find "typical" dishes of our countries which are fake. For example:
A pizza of paella.
A hamburger of Spanish omelette and bacon.
A Spanish chorizo and paprika soup. I have never seen it in Spain!
Yes, it happened to me too..when I went to Turkey they had a dish called “sarmale” the same as Romanian.
Our sarmale are made of minced pork meat wrapped in cabbage leaves, but theirs was all made of rice, no meat.
Only the name was the same…

by SP_Student_Inmaculada Gómez Fernández -In my case, i did not have that experience because when i go for a trip I never try Spanish food or Spanish restaurants. I usually by that's country's typical food for trying it and knowing if it tastes good or not! Most times it is really good but sometimes it is awful!

well, Slovenia is too small to find our typical dishes around the world. But we do have some disputes with some of our neighboring countries about the origin of some dishes and drinks, for example, there is a big debate if Kranjska sausage and a wine named Teran are Slovenian or Croatian. Well, either way, they are both delicious. :-)))

Lithuanians make a really delicious cake called ŠAKOTIS (branch cake). I tried something similar in France and Germany, but the taste was not the same as in Lithuania. And it was so interesting to discover that other countries including and Lithuania name this cake as their national one.
Bulgarian cuisine is little known, but it often happens to me that they serve us a Greek salad, which is very similar to the Shop salad.

Doner Kebab was actually invented in Berlin, Germany, even though most people think its from Turkey. Well, technically, the inventor is called Kadir Nurman and came to Germany as a guest worker from Turkey. I once came across a store called "German Doner Kebab" that sells the typical Doner in a bun in the US, Canada, and other countries. That is probably the only German food that is popular in other countries, I guess sauerkraut, sausages and potato salad have not yet took off internationally.
